A kitchen is judged after six months, not on day one

Almost every kitchen looks good in the photo taken on handover day. The difference shows up later, when the drawer under the hob starts sticking, the shutter near the sink swells, or you realise you have to bend into a low shelf every single morning to reach the pressure cooker.

So we plan yours around the boring things first. Where the sink, hob and fridge sit, how far you walk between them, what you use daily versus once a month, and which surfaces take the most oil and water. The finish and the colour come after that, not before.

Kitchen layouts

Which layout suits your kitchen

Most Bangalore flats allow one or two of these. We will tell you on the site visit which one your walls and window actually permit.

L-shaped kitchen

The most common choice in 2BHK and 3BHK flats. Two adjacent walls give you a natural work triangle and leave the floor open. Good when you want counter space without blocking the entry.

  • Corner pull-out
  • Tall unit
  • Deep base drawers
  • Wall units
  • Loft storage
  • Under-sink cabinet

Parallel or galley kitchen

Two facing runs, usually in a long narrow kitchen. Gives the most storage per square foot. Needs at least 1.1 metres of walking space between the runs so two people are not knocking into each other.

  • Twin base runs
  • Tandem baskets
  • Wall units both sides
  • Tall unit
  • Bottle pull-out
  • Chimney recess

Straight-line kitchen

One wall, best for 1BHK flats and rental fit-outs. Tall units and loft storage do the heavy lifting here, because the counter run is short.

  • Single run base units
  • Tall unit
  • Loft storage
  • Wall units
  • Cutlery pull-out
  • Compact waste bin

U-shaped kitchen

Three walls, plenty of counter and storage, and a very short walk between the sink and hob. Needs a wider room, otherwise it feels closed in.

  • Two corner units
  • Magic corner
  • Tall pantry
  • Deep drawers
  • Wall units
  • Built-in oven housing

Island or breakfast counter kitchen

For open-plan flats and villas. The island adds prep space and seating, but it only works if there is proper clearance on all sides, so we check this before promising it.

  • Island with storage
  • Breakfast counter
  • Bar seating
  • Hob or sink on island
  • Wine or crockery unit
  • Pendant lighting

What you get in a Design Frames kitchen

  • Base unitsWith drawers, shutters and adjustable legs
  • Wall unitsSized to your ceiling height, not a standard box
  • Tall unit or pantryWhere the room allows, for daily groceries
  • Loft storageAbove the wall units for suitcases and seasonal vessels
  • CountertopIn your choice of material, with a proper water stop at the sink
  • HardwareSoft-close hinges and channels, handles and corner solutions
  • AccessoriesCutlery trays, bottle pull-outs, plate racks and waste bins
  • Electrical pointsPlanned for chimney, hob, oven, microwave and water purifier
  • Installation and cleanupBy our own site team, plus a walkthrough before handover

Chimney, hob, sink and appliances can be supplied by us or bought by you. Either way we plan the openings and the points for them in advance, so there is no drilling on handover day.

Unit types

Every unit in your kitchen, and what it is for

A modular kitchen is not one thing, it is a set of units doing different jobs. Here is what each one does, so you know what you are paying for and what you can leave out.

The run of cabinets under your counter. This is where the weight goes, so we build them 600mm deep and 850mm high with adjustable legs that level out an uneven floor. Drawers beat shutters here for anything heavy, because you pull the vessels out to you instead of crouching and reaching in.

Typical size600mm deep, 850mm high, in widths of 450, 600 and 900mm
Good forVessels, pans, groceries, waste bin, under-sink storage

The cabinets above the counter, kept shallower at 300 to 350mm so you can still work below them without knocking your head. We size the height to your ceiling rather than using a standard box, which is what creates that dust-collecting gap in most kitchens.

Typical size300 to 350mm deep, 600 to 900mm high
Good forCrockery, dry goods, spices, glassware, everyday plates

A full-height cabinet from floor to ceiling, usually 600mm deep. This is the single most useful unit in an Indian kitchen, because it holds a month of groceries in one place instead of spread across three shelves. It can also be built to house a built-in oven or microwave at eye level.

Typical size600mm deep, 2100 to 2400mm high
Good forGrocery stock, pull-out pantry baskets, built-in oven or microwave housing, broom and mop storage

Deep drawer baskets on soft-close runners, built into base units. They replace the low shelf you have to bend into and sit on your knees to search. Everything slides out to you, you see the whole drawer at once, and the runners take the weight of a full set of steel vessels without sagging.

Typical size150, 200 or 250mm deep baskets inside a 600mm unit
Good forVessels, pressure cookers, kadais, tiffin boxes, heavy daily-use items

Every L-shaped and U-shaped kitchen has a dead corner where the two runs meet, and in most kitchens it is wasted space you can only reach by climbing halfway in. A corner pull-out or magic corner swings that whole shelf out to you. It costs more than a plain shelf and it is almost always worth it.

Typical sizeFits a 900mm corner base unit
Good forBulk vessels, mixer and appliance storage, anything you use weekly rather than daily

The cabinets above your wall units, running up to the slab. Bangalore flats have good ceiling height and most kitchens waste it. Loft units are for the things you touch twice a year, so shutters here can be lighter and cheaper than the rest of the kitchen.

Typical size400 to 600mm high, above the wall units
Good forSuitcases, festival vessels, appliance boxes, seasonal storage

The working surface, cut to your counter and polished on the exposed edges. We build in a water stop at the sink so spills do not run down the shutter fronts, and seal the joints properly. Granite is the hard-wearing Bangalore standard. Quartz is more uniform in colour and more stain resistant, at a higher price.

Typical size18 to 20mm thick, 600mm deep, with a 50 to 100mm skirting at the wall
Good forEveryday cooking, heat, chopping, heavy cleaning

Materials and finishes

Materials, in plain language

Carcass, the box behind the shutter

We use BWP grade plywood for kitchens because it handles water far better than MDF or particle board. This is the part nobody sees and the part that decides whether your kitchen survives ten years of steam and spills. The grade and brand are written into your quote.

Shutter finishes

Laminate
Acrylic
PU paint
Membrane
Lacquered glass
Veneer
FinishLooks likeGood to know
LaminateMatte or textured, huge colour rangeThe value pick. Tough, easy to clean, hides daily marks well
AcrylicHigh gloss, mirror-likeLooks premium and brightens dark kitchens. Shows fingerprints
PU paintSmooth, any colour, matte or glossBest for custom shades. Costs more and needs care during fitting
MembraneSeamless, mild profile shapesNo visible edge banding. Good for a softer, classic look
Glass or lacquered glassSleek and very easy to wipeUsually used on wall units rather than base units

Countertops

Granite
Quartz
Marble
Sintered stone

Granite is the Bangalore default for good reason, it is hard and takes heat. Quartz is more uniform and stain resistant, and costs more. Marble looks beautiful but stains from turmeric and lemon, so we usually talk clients out of it for a working Indian kitchen.

Standard sizes

The measurements behind a comfortable kitchen

These are the sizes that make a kitchen easy to work in. We adjust them to your height and your room, but this is the starting point.

Loft 400–600mm Wall units 300–350mm deep Base units 600mm deep 550–600 850–900 counter run
Counter at 850–900mm, wall units 550–600mm above it, loft running to the slab. We shift these to suit whoever cooks most.
ElementStandard sizeWhy
Counter height850 to 900mm from floorSet so you are not stooping while chopping. We raise or lower it to suit whoever cooks most
Base unit depth600mmFits a standard sink and hob with room behind for the tap
Wall unit depth300 to 350mmShallow enough to work under without hitting your head
Gap between counter and wall units550 to 600mmEnough room for a mixer or kettle to sit on the counter
Tall unit height2100 to 2400mmRuns to ceiling height so nothing is wasted above it
Walking space in a parallel kitchen1100mm minimumTwo people can pass without turning sideways
Countertop thickness18 to 20mmStrong enough not to crack at the sink cut-out
Skirting at the wall50 to 100mmStops water running behind the counter

Appliances

Planning the appliances before we cut anything

These decide where the plumbing and the electrical points go, so we settle them at design stage rather than drilling into a finished kitchen.

  • Single or double bowl sink
  • Built-in or freestanding hob
  • 60cm or 90cm chimney
  • Built-in oven housing
  • Dishwasher provision
  • Water purifier point

Sink

Single bowl suits a small kitchen, double bowl helps if two people wash together, and a single bowl with a drainboard is the most common choice in Bangalore flats. Stainless steel is standard. We plan the cabinet below it to stay dry, with a water stop on the counter and a detergent pull-out inside.

Hob

A built-in hob sits flush in the counter and looks cleaner. A freestanding gas stove is cheaper and easier to replace. Either way we place it away from the corner so your pan handles are not hitting a wall, and keep it clear of the sink so water and flame are not next to each other.

Chimney

Size the chimney to the hob, not the kitchen. A 60cm hob takes a 60cm chimney, a 90cm hob takes 90cm. The duct route matters more than the brand, so we plan it into the wall units instead of boxing it in afterwards. Ducted always beats filter-only in an Indian kitchen where you cook with tadka daily.

Other appliances

Tell us early about the fridge, microwave, oven, dishwasher and water purifier. Fridge position changes the whole work triangle, a built-in oven needs a tall unit housing, and a dishwasher needs both a water point and a drain. Adding these later means cutting into finished cabinets.

Hardware

The parts you touch fifty times a day

Hinges and channels are the first thing to fail in a cheap kitchen, so this is not the place to save money. We fit soft-close hardware from established brands such as Hettich, Hafele and Ebco, and every piece carries its own brand warranty on top of our workmanship warranty.

  • Soft-close hinges
  • Tandem drawers
  • Magic corner
  • Bottle pull-out
  • Cutlery tray
  • Plate rack
  • Waste bin unit
  • Wicker baskets

Small kitchens

Working with a small Bangalore kitchen

A lot of flats around Electronic City and Bommasandra have kitchens under 60 square feet, and clients assume they have to give up storage. Usually they do not. Going floor to ceiling, adding a loft, using tandem baskets instead of shelves, and putting a pull-out in the corner typically finds a third more usable storage in the same room. We will show you the numbers on your own plan before you commit.

  • Floor-to-ceiling units
  • Loft storage
  • Corner pull-out
  • Tandem baskets
  • Slim tall unit
  • Under-sink organiser
A third more usable storage in the same room, typically, once the kitchen goes floor to ceiling and the dead corner is put to work.

      Kitchen questions

      Modular kitchen FAQ

The questions that come up on almost every kitchen call. Anything else, just ring us, we would rather answer it in two minutes on the phone.

      Call 80958 61841
Most of our kitchens land between ₹1.5 lakh and ₹4 lakh. The main things that move the number are the length of the counter, the shutter finish, the countertop material and how many accessories you want. You get an itemised quote after the free site visit, so you can see the cost of each unit before agreeing to anything.
Around 2 to 3 weeks from design approval. Production takes most of that, and the on-site installation is usually 2 to 4 days. If the old kitchen has to be broken out, add a few days.
Yes. You see the layout, 3D views and real shutter and counter samples before anything is cut, and the first design and 3D views come free with your project enquiry. We start only after you approve both the drawings and the quote.
Laminate is tougher, cheaper and hides marks, which suits a busy family kitchen. Acrylic looks glossier and brightens a dark room, but it shows fingerprints and needs more wiping. Neither is wrong. We bring both samples so you can decide by looking, not from a brochure.
We can supply them, or you can buy your own. Either way, tell us the models early so we plan the cut-outs, the electrical points and the chimney duct into the design instead of drilling into a finished kitchen.
Usually yes, because modular is where the storage gains come from. Floor-to-ceiling units, a loft, corner pull-outs and deep drawers get more into a small room than carpentered open shelves ever will.
Sometimes. If the carcass is sound and the layout works, changing shutters, hardware and the counter is a much cheaper job. If the box behind is swollen or built in particle board, replacing shutters is money wasted. We will tell you honestly which one you have.
We do. The units are made by our own carpenters to your measurements, and fitted by our own site team. Nothing is handed to an outside contractor, which is why we can promise both the finish and the date.
Yes. We are fastest around Electronic City, Bommasandra, Hosur Road, Chandapura, Attibele and Sarjapur, and we take kitchen projects across the rest of Bangalore as well. Send your pincode and we will confirm the site visit day.
One year on our workmanship, plus the brand warranty on hardware and appliances. Our team fits the kitchen, so there is nobody else to chase if something needs adjusting.
